How Low Can I Go?

Mussel Rock, Pacifica SW @ 10mph, high tide

Strong reverse launch from Walker, turned north and headed straight for the cliffs. Arrived well above old hwy 1 but gained little height, doubled back to stay within range of bailout. Lost more height than expected and turned back for landing on the Steps. But I did one more figure 8 in a slightly lifty area on the return trip, hoping to rescue my flight, but lost even more height. My safety margin was spent, I was only 20 feet above the ground up by the time I got to landable terrain. Landed gently, in the wind on the lowest road.

Errors:

  • Changed mind about bailing out, used up safety margin.
  • Too low over hostile terrain.

0:04 Mussel Rock (Walker), reverse launch.
