Mussel Rock, Pacifica, 3:00pm W @ 13mph
Very good kiting from gravel up to top of Lemmings, one drop but very good control throughout. Lifted gently, prematurely, off my feet as I stood on edge of launch. Headed to cliffs with plenty of height. Got up very quickly to 600 feet where it was strong and foggy. Big ears and bar straight into the wind was enough to get down to 400. Passed in front of Walker ridge, experienced turbulence and a few stomach-floating drops. Other pilots said it was strongly thermal that day. Headed out to sea on bar and ears. Let one ear out to induce slow turn. Turned in lift on downwind leg, giving me a bit more height than intended. Figure 8 over plateau to get down over high road. Almost touched down twice but got popped back up when pulling Ds to kill wing. Third attempt worked, but was asymmetric and I fell over after touching down. On my belly, I fully downed the wing by pulling in a brake line. Next time, I’ll try killing with Cs.
- Premature launch.
- Popped up while trying to use brakes or Ds to kill wing.
