Back to the Beach

Mussel Rock, Pacifica, 10mph W, fog at 400 feet

Launched from Lemmings, part-way down the hill with my glider on the crest (to avoid rotor). Dropped the wing anyway and accepted another pilot’s help extracting the lines from the brush. I successfully lifted the wing but launched prematurely, I wasn’t able to kite up the hill for optimal launch. Headed north to the slide, hoping for lift. Didn’t find much and foolishly pressed on for another few seconds before turning back. My only landing option was the beach, I landed as far from the surf as possible, with my wing on the cliff face.

  • Popped up using brakes ground handling on slope.
  • Flew too low in front of cliffs, beach landing.

0:02 Mussel Rock (Lemmings), reverse launch.
